This chapter focuses on how autonomous vehicles interact and communicate with people and their surrounding environment. As automation removes the human driver from the control loop, new forms of Human–Machine Communication (HMC) are required to ensure transparency, trust, and safety. The chapter examines how information is exchanged between vehicles, passengers, pedestrians, operators, and fleet managers through a variety of interfaces and communication modes. It introduces conceptual and practical frameworks such as Human–Machine Interfaces (HMI), the Language of Driving (LoD), and public acceptance mechanisms that together define how autonomy becomes understandable and socially integrated in everyday mobility.
